Waterford Academy of Music and Arts run a fun filled art programme with Waterford artist Ben Hennessy. Ben has long traditions in the art and theatre scene in Waterford city and his work has been exhibited in Ireland, London and San Francisco.


Ben brings to WAMA his long running art programme for children called “Big Colourdee Creative Stuff” which began over 15 years ago in Garter Lane and is aimed at 4 to 10 year olds. Also on the programme are classes for teens and adults looking to explore their creative side using traditional and alternative mediums.


For Junior and Leaving certificate students the academy run portfolio building classes where students can receive expert guidance and tuition to help them with their school projects.

Ben received his 1st class honours degree from the National College of Art and Design in 1983 and finished his Post Grad in 1986 in the San Francisco Academy of Art University. Since then he has exhibited his paintings all over Ireland, in London, New York and San Francisco and his work is included in many public and private collections.


A Founder Member and Artistic Director of Red Kettle, Ben is now Artistic Director of Little Red Kettle.  His theatre design, writing and directing work been seen all over Ireland, in New York, London, Edinburgh, South Africa, France and Japan. In that time he has also designed sets for over 80 Theatre and Musical Productions!


Ben has also been working with and for children in the Arts for 36 years. His legendary ‘BIG COLOURDEE CREATIVE STUFF’– an Art programme for 3 to 12 year olds ran for 15 years in Garter Lane and attracted 100 children each Saturday.  Ben has recently been work with Trevor Darmody to design and deliver an extensive series of Art Classes and courses for WAMA – Waterford Academy of Music and Art.
